About The Position

The Custodian Lead position is a team member of the Wisconsin Union - Facilities Custodian Team. This role involves lead worker duties such as assisting in training new employees, inspecting progress and quality of building services. Basic duties include routine maintenance and cleaning, trash removal, and snow removal. Other duties will be assigned as needed. Work is performed under the guidance of a Custodial Services Supervisor. Shift hours are 3rd Shift, 10pm - 6:30pm (Union South) or 10:30pm - 7pm (Memorial Union), with rotating days of the week worked. This is a 40-hour per week position. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors at UW-Madison - Union South (1308 West Dayton Street, Madison WI 53705) and Memorial Union (800 Langdon Street, Madison, WI 53706). Applicants may be considered for future openings.

Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, lift, carry, bend, stoop and climb for the majority of the shift, including extended periods of continuous physical activities with or without an accommodation.
• Ability to lift and move supplies, equipment and material regularly up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to remove snow and ice outside during cold weather.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
• Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
• Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
• Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
• Schedules, monitors, and communicates with staff and assists with basic training
• Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
• Responds to facility emergency and hazardous situations, and escalates incidents according to established policies and procedures

Benefits

• $18.91 per hour
• An additional $2.50 per hour for night hours worked (6pm-6am).
• An additional $0.80 per hour for weekend hours worked.
• Time and a half per hour for hours worked on designated legal holidays.
