About The Position

Performs manual cleaning of assigned buildings using proper methods and materials. This role participates in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of assigned buildings, completing tasks such as those related to football and baseball events, and work orders. The Custodian II must demonstrate knowledge of various cleaning equipment including commercial vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacs, backpack blowers, auto scrubbers, pressure washers, shower machines, and carpet machines. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors, cleaning classrooms, washing windows, walls, blinds, and emptying trash. The role also involves cleaning large public areas like stadiums and auditoriums, preparing and cleaning areas for special events, and responding to emergency situations such as property damage, water leaks, and accidents involving bodily fluids. As a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel, the Custodian II will participate in pre-emergency preparations and post-emergency recovery efforts. Additional duties may be assigned by Custodial Leadership.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Six (6) months of related experience in a higher education setting or commercial cleaning environment.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Skill in managing ones’ own time while completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship. The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas (e.g., H-1B).

Nice To Haves

  • Must be able to show knowledge on the following types of equipment: commercial vacuum cleaners (uprights and backpack vacuums), wet/dry vac, backpack blower, auto scrubbers, pressure washer, shower machine, and carpet machines.

Responsibilities

  • Performs manual cleaning of assigned building(s).
  • Uses proper methods and materials in cleaning and care for the building area and equipment.
  • Participates in the care, cleaning, and general housekeeping of the buildings that are assigned, completing all tasks including football, baseball, work orders, etc. as assigned.
  • Sweeps, mops, and scrubs floors.
  • Cleans classrooms to include cleaning of desks and tables, chalkboards, white-boards and erasers.
  • Washes windows, walls, blinds, trash cans, air conditioning grills, glass and doors.
  • Cleans bathrooms, replenishes supplies, and cleans drinking fountains in assigned buildings.
  • Cleans and polishes brass and stainless steel.
  • Empties trash inside and outside buildings, sweeps entrances and outside steps, ramps, sidewalks, and cleans buildings signs.
  • Cleans entrances (including windows, door areas, and entrance mats), sweeps and mops stairwells, vacuums carpeted areas.
  • Cleans large public areas such as football stadium, basketball coliseum, baseball stadium, and Bennett Auditorium.
  • Cleans areas used for special events on campus before and after the events.
  • Unlocks buildings and cleans other areas as assigned in coverage zones.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours.
  • Serves as a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel and as directed by the Physical Plant participates in pre-emergency preparations and post emergency recovery efforts.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Custodial Leadership.
