About The Position

Custodian positions work in public spaces, classrooms, labs and offices of assigned buildings on the University campus. Custodians are working on cleaning these rooms/areas with providing professional housekeeping duties to provide building tenants with clean and inviting work environments.

Requirements

High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
Knowledge and ability to properly use custodial equipment.
Ability to use machinery such as vacuums, floor buffers, and pressure washers.
Communicates effectively in a professional manner.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and lift 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

At least 6 months of janitorial/custodian experience.

Responsibilities

Sweeps, mops, polishes and strips floors in rooms and halls.
Dusts and/or polishes furniture, blinds and equipment.
Vacuums, spot cleans and/or extracts carpets, and furniture using commercial vacuum cleaners and extraction equipment.
Assures all safety precautions are followed in the workplace.
Cleans restrooms and fills dispensaries. This includes emptying trash cans, restocking of paper towels, toilet paper, and soap.
Mopping of bathroom floors using housekeeping chemicals.
Reports malfunctions of bathroom fixtures, light fixtures and/or damages to room and hall furnishings to Supervisor.
May also replace light bulbs.
Initiates work orders for repair/maintenance.
Moves furniture, equipment or fixtures as required.
Stocks area with appropriate supplies.
