About The Position

Steward Observatory is a century-old observatory and one of the University of Arizona’s oldest research units. It brings together students, staff, faculty, engineers, and technicians to pursue astronomy research, education, and outreach, with more than 180 professionals supporting advanced facilities, laboratories, and observatories.

Mt. Graham International Observatory is seeking a reliable and dedicated part-time Custodian. The position performs custodial duties at the Base Camp on Swift Trail and the observatory site on Mt. Graham, cleaning and maintaining buildings three days per week. The role involves working at high altitudes, driving in varying weather conditions, and performing physical tasks. It offers a flexible schedule of approximately 30 hours per week. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

• High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency.
• Reliability and strong communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a team.
• Comfort working at high altitudes and driving in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physical tasks.

Nice To Haves

• Previous custodial experience with cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Dust, vacuum, mop, sanitize, and remove trash in bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, dining areas, common spaces, and public restrooms.
• Perform annual shutdown deep-cleaning, including mattress vacuuming, carpet shampooing, wall cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, and fixture maintenance.
• Transport employees, supplies, and laundry.
• Drive in varying weather conditions, including installing and removing snow chains when required.
• Clean and maintain observatory buildings at the Base Camp on Swift Trail and the Mt. Graham observatory site.
