About The Position

Performs manual custodial tasks in the care of City of Flint public buildings, rooms, floors and facilities. Maintains outside areas around the building and adjacent grounds. Mows grass, removes snow and other debris as required.

Requirements

  • At least one (1) year of experience performing varied custodial tasks and working with power equipment, e.g., lawnmower. Snowblower, etc.
  • Familiarity with the more common practices, methods, materials and tools of the building and related mechanical trades.
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Ability to use common hand tools with a reasonable degree of skill.
  • Ability to perform building and related mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with fellow workers and other personnel.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a manner that will not needlessly endanger the safety of oneself or other persons and equipment.
  • Ability to meet the physical, mental and visual standards of the job.
  • Possession of a valid State of Michigan Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Vacuums, sweeps, mops floors, dusts, washes walls, scrubs and buffs floors with electric machines.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms, cleans mirrors, and replenishes supplies as required.
  • Cleans fixtures in washrooms, washes windows and empties receptacles as required.
  • Dusts, polishes, arranges, and moves furniture and equipment as well as cleans blinds.
  • Collects and bales wastepaper.
  • Refinishes and waxes floors.
  • Removes rubbish from assigned area.
  • Maintains grounds around buildings, including such tasks as removing litter, trash, and weeds, trimming, or removing dead or broken branches, and caring for grass and flowers.
  • Removes snow and ice from parking lots, sidewalks and building entrances using hand and power equipment.
  • Removes debris from parking lots, steps, driveways, and sidewalks.
  • Operates power equipment such as lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, string trimmers, and miscellaneous hand tools.
  • Occasionally operates trucks, tractors or other power equipment.
  • Assists in preparing facilities for group meetings.
  • Completes tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Performs other duties as required.
