About The Position

The Custodian ensures a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment by performing a variety of cleaning, light maintenance, and event setup tasks across campus facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining floors, restrooms, and other surfaces; operating cleaning equipment; and managing the safe handling of chemicals. The role involves cleaning and maintaining various flooring surfaces (LVT, tile, carpet, concrete), scrubbing and sanitizing restrooms, restocking supplies, cleaning windows, walls, ceilings, and disposing of trash and recyclables. It also includes setting up and moving furniture for events, operating and maintaining cleaning equipment like vacuums and scrubbers, safely handling chemicals, and using ladders. The custodian will also be involved in building security by locking and unlocking doors, responding to emergencies, assisting with directing customers during severe weather, unpacking supplies, removing snow from entrances, using college vehicles for local pickups/drop-offs, and replacing light bulbs.

Requirements

Less than High School Education
2 Years of experience
Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, emails and memos; discuss information one-on-one and in small groups.
Ability to add and subtract numbers using basic units of measurement.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions; solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to navigate to and between computer applications; read/reply to emails, open/save/close files and applications; find, format and print documents; operate common office equipment.
Ability to pleasantly initiate, maintain and end a conversation; act in a professional manner using appropriate language and body language.

Some custodial experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Clean and maintain various flooring surfaces, including LVT, tile, carpet, and concrete.
Scrub and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, fixtures, walls, and floors.
Restock restroom supplies such as paper products and soap.
Clean windows, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.

Operate and maintain equipment such as vacuums, carpet shampooers, scrubbers, and buffing machines.
Handle cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety protocols.
Utilize ladders safely to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks.
Lock and unlock doors to ensure the security of assigned buildings.
Respond to emergencies and assist management as necessary.
Assist with directing customers to safe locations during severe weather.
Unpack and put away supply orders.
Remove snow from assigned building entrances.
Use college vehicles for local pickups or drop-offs of supplies or equipment.
Replace light bulbs.
