About The Position

This position is responsible for the overall cleanliness of City Hall, including the immediate outside area, as well as the Mall, Court, Police Department, VA, License Office, and Museum. There are daily, weekly, and every-other-day duties that must be completed to keep the building in a clean and orderly condition. The work is performed with a high degree of independence and requires prioritizing duties. Maintenance is a full-time, permanent position in the Administration Department. The immediate supervisor for this position is the Finance Officer. The person in this position is supervised daily. The person in this position works regular hours and works overtime or at night only in the event of an emergency. There is no shift work associated with this position. Depending on duty location, work is done both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. There is exposure to chemicals and/or hazardous materials in this position such as asphalt, herbicides, dust, gasoline, diesel fuel, street paint, or vehicle exhaust on a regular basis. The stress level associated with this position is average to moderately low, varying with activities. Physical work consists of, but is not limited to, driving equipment for long periods, walking, carrying equipment over long distances, and shoveling. Certain duties of this position are classified as “safety-sensitive.” Therefore, the person in this position will be subject to mandatory testing for drugs and/or alcohol on a random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up basis in accordance with the City’s Alcohol & Controlled Substance Use, Abuse and Testing Policy. Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess a GED or a high school degree.
  • Knowledge Maintenance & cleaning skills
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning supplies, tools, & equipment
  • Proper grammar and the use of English in speaking and writing
  • OSHA standards and regulations concerning employee safety
  • Federal and state statues concerning the work of the department
  • Mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication
  • General functions and operations of municipal government
  • Work as a team member with other employees
  • Communicate effectively with other city employees, both oral and written
  • Work autonomously when necessary
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions
  • Deal with others in a professional manner
  • Follow Departmental and City policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning/Maintenance of City Facilities in compliance to Standard Operating Procedures for this position.
  • Mowing Grass & Trimming at City Hall
  • Vacuum, Sweep, Mop, Scrubbing, & Buff Floors
  • Cleaning Restrooms
  • Trash removal from offices and departments located within City Hall
  • Changing Light Bulbs
  • Dusting & Cleaning Glass
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
  • Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Report any issue or problems to immediate supervisor
  • Assist with Special Projects and Events as needed
  • Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
