About The Position

The Akron Zoo is seeking a Part Time Custodial candidate. This role will be responsible for routine and restorative custodial work, assisting in event set up and tear down, required routine cleaning, and trash pickup. This position will also assist in snow mitigation as needed. The role requires maintaining a clean and presentable park, performing assigned cleaning tasks in a timely fashion to meet established standards. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, private/public restrooms, offices, staff locker/shower/break rooms, public spaces, staff storage, stairways, conference rooms, walkways, signs, railings, trash receptacles, viewing windows, litter pickup, gum removal, pathway blow downs, power washing, picnic tables, and awnings. Event assistance includes transporting and setting up/tearing down event infrastructure such as tables, chairs, and tents, utilizing a variety of gas, diesel, and electric vehicles like golf carts, UTVs, and skid steer equipment. The candidate will be trained to handle and respond to bio-hazard spills and will be responsible for plowing or shoveling snow and applying de-icing to pathways or building entrances, potentially using snowplows, snow throwers, and salt spreaders. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver License.
  • Must be 18 years or older to apply.
  • This is a Part-time position (not to exceed 24 hours per week).
  • This is a Non-Exempt position.
  • This is a Collective Bargaining position.
  • Must be able to work some weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • The employee may be required to perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.
  • The Akron Zoo reserves the right to revise and change job duties as business requirements dictate.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and restorative custodial work.
  • Assist in event set up and tear down.
  • Perform routine cleaning and trash pickup.
  • Assist in snow mitigation as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and presentable park.
  • Perform assigned cleaning tasks in a timely fashion and ensure work meets established standards for quality.
  • Clean areas including, but not limited to, private/public restrooms, offices, staff locker/shower/break rooms, public spaces, staff storage, stairways, conference rooms, walkways, signs, railings, trash receptacles, viewing windows.
  • Perform litter pickup, gum removal, and pathway blow downs.
  • Conduct power washing, clean picnic tables, and awnings.
  • Transport and set up/tear down event infrastructure (tables, chairs, tents, etc.) using various vehicles.
  • Handle and respond to bio-hazard spills in the park.
  • Plow or shovel snow and apply de-icing to pathways or building entrances.
  • Operate snowplows, snow throwers, and salt spreaders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay for this position ranges from $19.85-$20.95/hour based on experience as per union contract.
