The custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors, ensuring all areas are safe. Essential functions include routine cleaning of dorms, apartments, offices, and common areas, which involves cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, stocking supplies, cleaning, mopping, washing, buffing, and vacuuming floors, dusting, cleaning, and polishing furniture and fixtures, emptying trash, and cleaning windows. The role also requires maintaining outside areas and parking lots, sweeping debris, and washing walkways. The custodian is responsible for reporting malfunctions of bathroom and light fixtures, and damages to room and dorm furnishings to a supervisor, initiating work orders for repair/maintenance, and performing other assigned duties. Safety is paramount, requiring adherence to all safety procedures for equipment and job functions, use of personal protective equipment, and proper handling of chemicals per OSHA and MSDS regulations. Routine safety inspections on equipment and cleaning spills using bloodborne pathogen kits and/or OSHA approved spill kits are also part of the role. Additional duties include assisting in moving furniture, equipment, or fixtures, setting up for meetings, parties, and other events, and assisting in receiving donations or other deliveries. The position requires thoroughness, attention to detail, time management skills, and maintaining a professional attitude and cordial relationship with fellow staff members and clients.
