Requirements

  • Grade 8 or equivalent
  • Three to Six months’ experience in Custodial or building maintenance or related activities, preferably involving public contact or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in custodial work and safe work practices.
  • Ability to exert moderate/high physical strength in moving and lifting equipment, and to work in a standing position for long periods of time
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently, shift work hours, and/or be able to respond when off-duty to emergency.
  • Skill in the operation of equipment related to custodial and maintenance work.

Responsibilities

  • Clean assigned areas daily, including entrances, hallways, lobbies, washrooms, lunchrooms, conference rooms, mechanical rooms, and service buildings.
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, scrub, and wax floors.
  • Clean walls and surfaces.
  • Restock washroom supplies.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the facility and surrounding areas.
  • Clean interior and exterior glass around building perimeters.
  • Pick up litter around entrances, stairs, ramps, and facility grounds.
  • Empty waste receptacles and dispose of garbage properly.
  • Sweep, damp mop, wet mop, or machine scrub floors, including elevators and stairwells.
  • Ensure public and common areas remain clean and presentable.
  • Keep workspaces, storage areas, yards, shops, and accessory buildings clean, organized, and safe.
  • Support overall facility upkeep and appearance.
  • Follow all City health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Participate in required training, inspections, meetings, hazard assessments, incident reporting, and emergency drills.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for employees and visitors.
