About The Position

This position serves as a lead for custodial personnel within the Administration and Planning | FOD Operations Academic District Zone 1A and 1B at The Ohio State University. The role involves performing manual cleaning tasks such as cleaning carpets, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors. The lead custodial worker is responsible for overseeing other custodial workers in the cleaning and routine care of buildings, storing and maintaining equipment, making decisions regarding work methods and worker assignments, and ensuring a safe work environment. The position requires working a second shift schedule, specifically Saturday and Sunday from 2:45 PM to 11:45 PM and Monday through Wednesday from 5:45 PM to 2:45 AM, but is subject to changes in shift, hours, and/or days as operations dictate. The incumbent may also be subject to 24-hour emergency call and may work overtime. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Requirements

  • Six months in Custodial Worker 2 title or equivalent experience
  • Documentation of successful completion of department specific, advanced custodian certification testing (examples include Cleaning Management Institute, 3M(TM) S.M.A.R.T. Program, or other certification program recognized in the cleaning industry as reputable)
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and to read and write common vocabulary
  • Documentation of 100 hrs. training in operation of cleaning equipment (or 1 mo. exp.)
  • 100 hrs. documentation of training in supervision (or 1 mo. exp.)
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Subject to a drug screen or physical during the post offer process
