About The Position
This position is located in the Maintenance/Custodial Department of the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home, one of six residential long-term care facilities operated by the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs. It is a great opportunity for a positive and productive person who takes pride in cleaning and helping others! Custodial Workers are involved in routine manual work in public institutional buildings and surrounding grounds. This includes using custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment and may involve the moving and lifting of heavy furniture. Work is performed in accordance with a well-established routine and is subject to inspection to meet standards of cleanliness.
Requirements
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
Nice To Haves
- Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing)
- Work experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital
- Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient or resident rooms or a dining room setting
- Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas
- Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
- Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
- Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, strip, wax, and buff floors
- Custodial work experience in one of the following environments: activity or recreation room, bathroom, shower or bathing room, cafeteria or dining room, entranceway, lobby, common space, nursing station, patient or resident rooms, pharmacy, physical therapy rooms
Responsibilities
- Perform basic cleaning of resident rooms, facility offices, and public spaces
- Clean, polish, and sanitize handrails, fixtures, floors, walls, and windows
- Safely collect and properly dispose of trash, recyclable materials, and infectious waste
- Restock soap, paper products, cleaning chemicals, and related supplies
- Help move furniture, clear and clean debris, and remove snow
- Follow safety guidelines and product instructions, use protective equipment, and report hazards
