About The Position

Ensures the delivery of excellent customer service by performing responsible work in the regular care of City facilities. Assists in the coordination of various services in cooperation with internal and external customers. This is a full-time position with competitive benefits, including VRS retirement, paid time off, and medical, dental, and vision benefits ($26/month employee-only cost). Requirements

  • 10th grade education and some building cleaning experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Relevant background checks (criminal and reference) must be completed and approved
  • Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment

Nice To Haves

  • May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the delivery of excellent customer service by performing responsible functions in the safety, security, maintenance, and regular care of City facilities
  • Assists in the coordination of various services in cooperation with internal and external customers
  • Utilizes appropriate interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with a diverse customer base, some of whom may occasionally display emotions such as confusion, frustration, or anger
  • Performs basic sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping of floors
  • Cleans carpets with an extractor
  • Performs spot cleaning of carpet and upholstered furniture
  • Operates a wet/dry vacuum
  • Cleans and disinfects urinals, toilets, and lavatories
  • Refills soap, towel, and toilet tissue dispensers
  • Washes windows, walls, woodwork, and bathroom fixtures using ladders
  • Gathers and disposes of trash from interior and exterior of assigned buildings; gathers paper for recycling
  • Dusts office furniture, partitions, high and low ledges and moldings, and venetian blinds
  • Assists with cleaning parking decks
  • Reports repairs beyond capabilities of custodial workers to supervisor or crew leader
  • May perform routine security to include locking and unlocking doors and deactivating alarm system of assigned building, and reports unusual observations to supervisors
  • Monitors cleaning of stairwells, elevators, restrooms, hallways, and meeting rooms
  • Assists customers in accessing services
  • Cleans and maintains the sidewalks and steps adjacent to assigned buildings
  • Maintains flexibility to work all city buildings as needed as well as occasionally working outside normal hours
  • Loads and unloads cleaning & polishing equipment
  • Loads and unloads materials from truck or van
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment in custodial closets
  • Reports repairs beyond capabilities of custodial workers to supervisor
  • Responds to special requests from user agencies
  • Responds to emergencies such as snow, flood, wind storms, etc.
  • When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery
