About The Position

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is seeking a Custodial Supervisor to lead and perform custodial work, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment across its 28 library locations. This role involves supervising and working alongside the custodial team on routine tasks and special projects, such as changing light bulbs, trimming landscaping, mowing grass, and removing snow and ice. The supervisor will resolve operational problems, promote teamwork, encourage communication, and inform staff of relevant business issues. Requirements

  • Solid understanding of custodial work.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in building maintenance and custodial activities.
  • Knowledge of the hazards involved and the safety practices required for custodial activities.
  • Skill in basic computer operations.
  • Skill in the operation and use of custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to respond to customer concerns and needs.
  • Ability to work alongside custodial staff to meet department goals and outcomes.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding position with continuous bending, kneeling, and lifting of objects that can weigh up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Ability to train, motivate, and supervise custodial staff.
  • Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to work in an environment with people from all backgrounds and age groups.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with customers, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
  • A high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Three years of custodial experience.
  • A current Colorado driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Responsibilities
