About The Position

The Supervisor is responsible for overseeing custodial operations and ensuring contract facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition in compliance with contract standards. This role provides direction, support, and accountability for staff while also performing cleaning duties as needed to meet operational requirements. Consistent with Goodwill's mission, this role places strong emphasis on training and developing custodial staff, including individuals with disabilities, through hands-on instruction, patience, and adaptive coaching that build job skills, confidence, and long-term employment success. This position may support multiple contract sites and requires regular travel between locations to provide supervision, training, and support. The Supervisor is expected to maintain a professional and courteous attitude, demonstrate flexibility, effectively manage time and resources, and contribute to continuous improvement and team development efforts.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Two (2) years of custodial or facilities supervisory experience, including training or mentoring staff, preferred
  • Experience with quality control and inspection processes preferred
  • Experience training or supporting individuals with disabilities such as job coaching, supported employment, or vocational training preferred
  • Experience supervising staff across multiple work locations preferred
  • Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, or facilities management
  • Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and safety practices
  • Experience with floor care techniques and equipment
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, reliability, and strong work ethic

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate custodial staff in assigned areas to ensure all contract requirements are met
  • Schedule work and assign staff to ensure timely and efficient completion of custodial duties.
  • Provide direction, hands-on training, and ongoing support to employees, including individuals with disabilities, to build job skills and maintain quality and productivity standards.
  • Monitor employee performance and address issues as needed to maintain accountability and consistency.
  • Ensure adequate staffing coverage and adjust assignments as needed to meet operational demands.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day operations within assigned facilities.
  • Travel between multiple assigned contract sites as needed to provide consistent supervision, training, and support across locations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure compliance with contract standards and customer satisfaction.
  • Train and mentor custodial staff across assigned sites, including individuals with disabilities, using clear, hands-on instruction.
  • Partner with HR, job coaches, and other support resources to implement reasonable accommodations and adaptive training methods.
  • Model patience, clear communication, and step-by-step demonstration when introducing new tasks or equipment.
  • Track individual employee progress and provide ongoing coaching to build skills, confidence, and independence.
  • Recognize and reinforce employee progress to support retention and career growth within GIC.
  • Perform general cleaning duties as needed, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.
  • Assist with or perform restroom, breakroom, office, and common area cleaning to maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Perform and/or support floor care tasks such as stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning as required.
  • Operate and ensure proper use of custodial equipment, including auto-scrubbers, buffers, and other machinery, when necessary.
  • Work alongside staff as needed to ensure completion of daily, periodic, and project work.
  • Conduct regular quality inspections to ensure all work meets contract standards.
  • Identify deficiencies, report issues, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Follow up to ensure all deficiencies are resolved and standards are maintained.
  • Maintain accurate and timely completion of daily reports, logs, and required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all contract requirements, company policies, and customer expectations.
  • Ensure awareness and enforcement of GIC Safety Policies.
  • Promote and monitor proper use and storage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure incidents and accidents are promptly reported and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all employees and building occupants.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Promote teamwork, employee engagement, and a positive work environment.
