About The Position

The Custodial Lead provides day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to the custodial team while helping ensure that the church and school facilities are clean, safe, sanitary, orderly, and properly prepared for ministry activities, school functions, worship services, events, and daily operations. The Custodial Lead is a working team leader who leads by example. This position is expected to actively participate in custodial work while helping organize the team, communicate priorities, monitor quality, address issues, and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed. The Custodial Lead understands that maintaining the campus is a team effort. The Lead works cooperatively with Facilities Maintenance, Ministries, Church and School Staff, volunteers, and other employees to provide a clean and welcoming environment for students, families, congregation members, visitors, and guests.

Requirements

Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facilities experience preferred.
Previous team-lead or supervisory experience preferred.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and other departments.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to safely operate custodial equipment.
Ability to properly handle cleaning chemicals and supplies.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Good computer skills/fluent in Windows and Google applications
Ability to interact appropriately with children, students, staff, congregation members, and visitors.
Heart for serving and loving others
Must be able to obtain a level 1 Arizona fingerprint clearance card

Responsibilities

Provide daily direction and leadership to custodial team members.

Promote a teamwork-first environment where employees help one another and take responsibility for the overall condition of the campus.
Assign and coordinate daily custodial duties based on priorities and facility needs.
Help balance workloads and assist team members when needed.
Encourage team members to communicate problems, supply needs, safety concerns, and facility issues.
Help train new custodial employees in cleaning procedures, equipment operation, safety practices, and facility expectations.
Reinforce established custodial procedures and standards.
Address minor performance or work-quality issues promptly and professionally and communicate significant concerns to Facilities Leadership.
Work with Facilities leadership to ensure proper custodial coverage.
Maintain relationships with facilities vendors to coordinate cleaning and or additional work
Perform and oversee routine cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, worship areas, meeting rooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
Ensure rooms are properly cleaned and prepared for church services, school activities, meetings, events, and special functions.
Monitor high-traffic areas and respond to changing cleaning needs throughout the day.
Ensure trash and recycling are properly collected and disposed of.
Maintain restrooms with appropriate cleaning, sanitation, and supply levels.
Assist with floor care, carpet cleaning, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, and other custodial duties.
Ensure cleaning equipment, tools, and supplies are properly used, maintained, and stored.
Regularly inspect assigned areas to ensure they meet established cleanliness standards.
Identify areas needing additional attention and coordinate corrective work with the custodial team.
Follow established cleaning schedules and checklists.
Report recurring cleanliness problems or facility deficiencies to Facilities leadership.
Help establish accountability within the custodial team for completing assigned work orders and cleaning responsibilities.
Take pride in presenting a clean, safe, and welcoming campus.
Work cooperatively with all members of the Facilities Ministry.
Assist Maintenance personnel when necessary.
Communicate effectively with vendors and church/school staff regarding facility needs.
Encourage team members to help each other rather than working in isolation.
Share important information with Facilities Leadership in a timely manner.
Maintain a respectful and professional relationship with coworkers, ministry employees, teachers, administrators, students, congregation members, and visitors.
Help create a workplace where employees are treated with dignity, respect, patience, and professionalism.
Understand that the condition of the campus is a shared responsibility of the entire Facilities team.
Follow all church/school safety policies and procedures.
Ensure custodial employees properly use personal protective equipment when required.
Properly handle and store cleaning chemicals.
Follow Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements and update as necessary.
Ensure wet floors and other hazards are appropriately marked or secured.
Report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, property damage, and facility hazards promptly.
Operate custodial equipment according to manufacturer and facility guidelines.
Help maintain a safe work environment for employees, students, and visitors.
Monitor custodial supplies and notify the Facilities leadership when supplies need to be reordered.
Help prevent unnecessary waste and misuse of supplies.
Maintain an organized custodial supply area.
Ensure equipment is cleaned and returned to its proper location after use.
Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly.
Assist with inventory of custodial supplies, tools, and equipment.
Assist with the completion and tracking of custodial work orders.
Prioritize work based on building needs, scheduled activities, and direction from the Facilities leadership.
Assist with setup and cleanup for church, school, and special events.
Coordinate custodial responsibilities for large events when assigned.
Participate in periodic deep-cleaning projects and campus improvement projects.
Help ensure work is completed thoroughly and on schedule.
