About The Position

Performs manual work of ordinary difficulty in cleaning and maintaining School District buildings and immediate grounds. Performs minor repairs on furniture and equipment, as well as uses power equipment to care for the grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of full-time, paid custodial housekeeping experience in a large commercial or public building or group of smaller buildings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques, tools, materials and equipment which are essential to housekeeping.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper cleaning procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning solvents and equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of housekeeping activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply the proper cleaning techniques necessary to keep the assigned facility clean.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn the proper use of cleaning solvents and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to make minor building and equipment repairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to do vigorous manual work, climb stairs and lift heavy loads.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general housekeeping tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of offices, classrooms, cafeterias and laboratories, as well as the school yard and walkways.
  • Sweeps, scrubs, mops, cleans and waxes floors of rooms, hallways, stairs and fire escapes; cleans and dusts walls, lockers and plumbing fixtures; washes walls as required; cleans tile and windowsills throughout the building; cleans auditorium and cafeteria; picks up broken glass and debris in the school yard; sweeps and cleans shower rooms, water fountains, washes light fixtures, replaces bathroom supplies; replaces faucet washers, floors drains and flushometer components.
  • May occasionally operate elevators, may tend steam boilers and hot water boilers as directed; may haul coal for fires during the winter months; cleans school shops; maintains firefighting equipment; locks and unlocks doors and fire towers; may put up and take down flag; vacuums hallways; empties trashcans inside and outside building; may rehang and repair shades and make other minor repairs; utilizes gas operated machinery to perform such duties as grass cutting and snow removal.
