About The Position

LaAmistad is seeking a Program Assistant to support its Afterschool Tutoring and Parent Partnership programs. The role involves assisting with program preparation, teaching, and evaluation, developing supplemental teaching materials, and supporting communication with parents. The position requires the ability to sit or walk for moderate periods and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. The assistant will also support data collection and input, respond to stakeholder inquiries, and prepare program documentation. The ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish and English, possess a high school diploma or GED (a bachelor's degree is preferred), and have experience with parent coaching and Microsoft Office applications. A commitment to the program's mission and goals, reliable transportation, and a valid driver's license are also required. Candidates over 25 willing to drive a small bus/van for student transport may receive additional compensation.

Requirements

  • Fluency in Spanish and English (writing, listening, and speaking)
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word/Excel/PowerPoint
  • Must have own transportation and hold a valid driver’s license
  • Commitment to the program’s goals and mission

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual native Spanish speaker preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience with parent coaching is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within diverse families
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as during parent/or community events
  • Candidates over age 25 who are willing to drive a small bus/van to transport up to 14 students to afterschool, in addition to filling this role, will receive an additional $2/hour above their determined pay rate.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing, teaching, and evaluating assigned instructional courses
  • Develops supplemental teaching material and strategies to help students practice
  • Support the Afterschool Teacher with on-site programming needs
  • Assists the staff with all communication to and from the parents in English and Spanish
  • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Supports the collection and input of data for all programs
  • Effectively responds to stakeholder inquiries, questions, and comments
  • Prepares and distributes program documentation and details
  • Creates and/or updates class syllabi or other communications as needed
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned
