About The Position

The PE Curriculum Specialist coordinates elementary physical education programs and related activities by supporting high-quality physical education instruction, including adaptive and inclusive physical education, managing curriculum and grant initiatives, facilitating professional development, and providing ongoing support to elementary PE specialists. The specialist supports the implementation of district and state physical education standards and promotes developmentally appropriate practices that help students develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for lifelong physical activity. As assigned and as resources allow, the specialist may also provide curriculum, professional development, and instructional support for secondary physical education programs.

  • Knowledge: Elementary physical education principles and developmentally appropriate instructional practices, Utah physical education standards, Effective instructional practices for developing students' physical literacy, motor skills, fitness, and lifelong physical activity habits, Student safety, classroom and behavior management, and inclusive practices in physical education settings, Curriculum development, adoption, and implementation, Grant administration and program compliance requirements.
  • Abilities: Communicate effectively with PE specialists, educators, administrators, and community partners, Provide effective training, coaching, and support to PE specialists with varied levels of instructional experience and training, Build collaborative relationships across schools and district teams, Model and communicate effective physical education instructional practices, Analyze program needs and use data and feedback to guide program improvement, Manage multiple projects, initiatives, and deadlines.
  • Job-related experience in physical education is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, health education, recreation, education, or a related field.
  • Utah Professional Educator License PE Endorsement
  • Mandated reporter training

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing training, leadership, or support to adults is preferred.
  • Instructional Coach or Mentor endorsement preferred.
  • Continuing Education / Training: District-required annual training and ongoing professional learning related to physical education, curriculum implementation, student safety, and grant requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation of elementary physical education programs, including initiatives associated with the Gold Medal Schools grant.
  • Coordinate the review, selection, adoption, and implementation of elementary physical education curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Support elementary PE specialists in implementing district curriculum, Utah physical education standards, and developmentally appropriate instructional practices.
  • Plan and facilitate high-quality professional development, training, and ongoing support for elementary PE specialists.
  • Provide resources, training, and instructional support to help PE specialists adapt instruction, activities, equipment, and learning environments to meet the needs of students with disabilities and other diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, related service providers, administrators, and PE specialists to support appropriate and inclusive physical education opportunities for students with disabilities.
  • Develop and maintain instructional resources, including pacing guides, lesson supports, assessments, and other resources that support consistent, high-quality PE instruction across schools.
  • Model and support effective physical education practices, including student engagement, skill development, classroom and behavior management, student safety, and inclusive practices.
  • Collaborate with district personnel, school administrators, PE specialists, and community organizations to support physical education, physical activity, and student wellness initiatives.
  • Coordinate curriculum resources, equipment, digital platforms, and instructional materials to ensure PE specialists have access to necessary tools and training.
  • Establish and facilitate committees or workgroups to support curriculum adoption, resource development, and program improvement.
  • Monitor program and grant budgets and financial activity related to elementary physical education initiatives.
  • Maintain program records and documentation and prepare reports required for grant programs and district initiatives.
  • Research and prepare grant proposals to support physical education, physical activity, and student wellness initiatives.
  • Monitor program implementation and use feedback and available data to identify needs and improve supports for PE specialists.
  • As assigned and as resources allow, support secondary physical education curriculum, professional development, instructional planning, and program initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
