Tallahassee State College (TSC), recently recognized as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges for 2025, is excited to announce a full -time, grant-funded opening for the position of Curriculum Specialist for Open Educational Resources with Division of Public Schools- Florida Department of Education. We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to fostering a vibrant workplace community. As a Curriculum Specialist for Open Educational Resources, you’ll play a key role in supporting the statewide development of K-12 English Language Arts Open Educational Resources, ensuring all products demonstrate alignment with the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards, meet high quality expectations, and comply with applicable Florida Statutes and State Board of Education rules.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Reading Education, English Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in elementary education (Kindergarten through Grade 5), with direct experience in early literacy instruction.
  • Candidates must demonstrate experience implementing evidence-based reading instruction aligned to foundational literacy skills (oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension).
  • Experience developing unit-level curriculum, scope and sequence documents, or district-level instructional resources.
  • Experience aligning instructional materials to state academic standards, including the B.E.S.T. Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Developing high-quality, standards-aligned instructional resources for Florida’s Kindergarten through Grade 2 OER project.
  • Drafting lesson-aligned materials, student support resources, teacher guidance documents, unit overviews, exemplars, and related instructional content as assigned.
  • Ensuring all developed content aligns to the B.E.S.T. Standards and Benchmarks, applicable Florida Statutes, and State Board of Education rules.
  • Integrating evidence-based early literacy and reading foundations practices into all resource development.
  • Reviewing drafted materials for instructional coherence, grade-level appropriateness, accuracy, and clarity prior to submission.
  • Maintaining an established drafting schedule and meeting project deadlines as determined by the Director.
  • Participating in structured weekly accountability meetings and providing progress updates on assigned deliverables.
  • Revising materials promptly and thoroughly in response to supervisory feedback.
  • Following established templates, formatting requirements, style guides, and version control procedures to ensure consistency across all materials.
  • Maintaining organized working files, documentation logs, and draft histories in accordance with project management expectations.
  • Appling quality assurance protocols to ensure accuracy, consistency, and accessibility compliance prior to final submission.
  • Assisting in the development of educator implementation supports, guidance documents, and training materials related to OER use.
  • Collaborating with team members and external support providers, as assigned, to support timely completion of project phases.
  • Identifying potential content misalignment, statutory concerns, or instructional issues and elevates concerns to the Director for review.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support project completion and Department priorities.
