About The Position

As a member of the Ciena Learning team, you will lead the development of engaging, state-of-the art learning solutions including eLearning, instructor-led courses, and on-demand learning resources for customers, partners, and internal audiences. We are looking for someone with experience managing technical training projects to join our dynamic and highly skilled instructional development team. As curriculum manager, you will work directly with Ciena’s hardware and software engineers to identify learning outcomes and work with course developers to produce learning products. The technical curriculum manager role is a combination of project management, technical expertise, and instructional design.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with SAOS 10, WaveRouter, 5130 and 8114.
  • Hands-on experience with PTS, T-Series L2, L3.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management.
  • Project management for projects with multiple team members and roles.
  • Experience with Networking and Networking concepts including, routing and switching.
  • Demonstrated skills in creating original technical training and/or online content.
  • Strong work ethic; ability to work independent of direct supervision.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and capable of working both independently and in teams.
  • Ability to research, understand, and communicate complex technical topics.
  • High energy and accustomed to above average productivity.
  • Adaptable, flexible and organized, capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for learning new technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills in working as part of a global team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying adult learning methodologies.
  • Familiar with the instructional effectiveness of learning programs.
  • Technical degree (BA/BS or greater), or equivalent combination of education and technical training development.
  • Minimum 6-8 years work experience in technical training and/or technical content design and development.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-On Experience with Networking and Networking concepts is an asset.
  • Experience with Navigator is an asset.
  • Experience with Ciena Technologies Packet optical, understanding of IP, Ethernet, Carrier Ethernet, DWDM, fiber optics, OTN, MPLS, network management systems, and network function virtualization is an asset.
  • Certification related to networking or telecommunications

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative learning solutions that meet audience training needs in alignment with Ciena’s organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop instructor-led courses, instructional materials, hands-on lab exercises, and on-demand resources that are effective, engaging, and consistent with best practices in adult education.
  • Create project plans including timelines and deliverables for training development projects.
  • Design role-specific learning programs based on needs and audience analysis.
  • Conduct needs assessments and audience analysis to determine instructional objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Explore a variety of sources, obtain and interpret a range of engineering information including technical notes, drawings, design specifications, and related documents.
  • Analyze new product releases to determine the impact on existing training content and identify new training needs.
  • Review course materials and design documents from other team members, provide feedback and recommendations.
  • Review and validate learning objectives throughout the course development and pilot process.
  • Review and evaluate feedback from students and instructors and take corrective action to improve courses based on feedback.
  • Creation and maintenance of certification tests that measure competencies for products and related technologies.
  • Track and measure the learning effectiveness of courses and learning products.
  • Identify and build relationships with subject matter experts, design, and PV technical staff to develop training objectives, training collateral, and courseware.
  • Development of materials for ILT and VILT courses.
