About The Position

Reporting to the Heritage Services Coordinator, the Curatorial Attendant will be responsible for assisting with the registration, cataloguing and care of the City of Richmond Hill’s Historical Collection. To provide support in the design and installation of exhibitions. This position is dependent on funding from the Canadian Heritage Young Canada Works program (YCW)/Canada Summer Jobs. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada, be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, or have Refugee status in Canada. Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible. Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, have attended full-time studies in the 2025/26 academic year, and intend to return to full-time studies in the fall of 2026.

Requirements

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Assist with cataloguing the Richmond Hill Historical Collection to meet the Standards to Museums required by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and the City of Richmond Hill.
  • Classifying and labeling artifacts, research, completing required forms, maintaining files and assisting staff and volunteers.
  • Assisting staff and volunteers with exhibition design and installation, and with interpretation and customer service at programs and events.
  • Know and understand the Collections Management and Conservation Policies and Procedures of the City of Richmond Hill and handle all artifacts, archival, art and archaeological material in a professional manner as per policy.
  • Database entry and digital imaging.
  • Ensure for the safe storage of the collection and the cleanliness and organization of the storage facility.
  • Ensure all doors and windows are locked before leaving collection storage facility at the end of shift.
  • Assist volunteers as required.
  • Inform the Heritage Services Coordinator/Heritage Services Assistant – Curatorial/Education of any serious problems or concerns.
  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.
  • Report to work promptly.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
