We are seeking a creative and accomplished Cultural Studio Leader to join our Urban, Campus & Cultural team. This role will lead design and business development opportunities with a team of motivated professionals, delivering outstanding results on diverse cultural projects. Recent projects include the Gateway Arch Museum, Princeton University Art Museum, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and space programming/master planning for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Getty Center and Villa.

Requirements

  • Professional degree in Architecture
  • 15+ years’ experience in the design of award-winning museums and other cultural facilities
  • Professional registration in architecture (required)
  • Respected design leader with a proven ability to collaborate effectively and mentor team members
  • Built and published track record of leading teams producing exceptional design work
  • Familiarity with current global cultural design trends
  • Recognized thought leader with experience presenting at conferences, speaking publicly, and publishing articles and essays
  • This position is designated as full-time on-site and requires the employee to be physically present at the assigned office location Monday through Friday during standard business hours. Regular, reliable on-site attendance is an essential function of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Studio and Sector leaders, designers, and project managers across the studio during all project phases to set expectations, support the design process, and challenge project teams to develop innovative design solutions and advance the firm's design principles.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends, professional practice, and regulatory and construction practice and issues.
  • Recognizes and seeks out solutions for the use of new technologies relating to project production and communications.
  • Directs the production of design materials that meet project objectives, including functional concepts, images, schedules, and budgets.
  • Supports project pursuits as the primary design representative in client engagements, communication, and in advancing the design vision.
  • Leads business development outreach to cultivate and maintain industry relationships.
  • Leads project pursuits, including responding to RFQs and RFPs.
  • Mentors team members and supports individual development by providing guidance, feedback, and motivation.
  • Possesses excellent programming and strategic planning skills.
  • Is an industry expert in major building systems and conveys this knowledge to the team.
  • Is an expert on code implications and requirements for several major building/occupancy types.
  • Cultivates success through high-level design and planning, facility requirements analysis, conceptual design, systems integration, and teamwork.
  • Takes responsibility for ensuring codes, regulations, and industry standards are applied correctly.
