About The Position

SWCA Environmental Consultants has an opening for Cultural Resources Field Technicians (HR Title: Cultural Resources Technician) for our New Mexico/Four Corners business. SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding their team and looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work. The New Mexico- Four Corners office of SWCA is hiring for field technicians to support pedestrian survey in southern New Mexico. This is a temporary, hourly, non-exempt position based out of Albuquerque. Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of location, but all work will be in New Mexico and technicians will need to be able to travel to Albuquerque for mobilization. Round-trip travel from Albuquerque to the project area, lodging, and standard per diem are provided. Cultural Resources technicians are eligible for wellness time. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field or six (6) months field experience with a range of field methodologies, including survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring required
  • Current valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads required
  • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited Field School Certification is preferred
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS software programs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork including monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery.
  • Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using handheld units.
  • Assist in excavations using shovels, picks, hand troweling, screening, and documenting stratigraphy.
  • Adhere to the safety program and look out for the safety of others, promptly communicating and mitigating safety hazards.
