About The Position

Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking a full-time Cultural Resources Report Writer to join a team of archaeologists, architectural historians, and part-time editors. This position supports project staff during the development, review, and editing of project documents, develops and leads training to increase staff writing competency, and champions company initiatives in document control and quality control procedures. This is a full-time benefits eligible opportunity that can be based anywhere in the U.S. The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $79,000 and $103,000 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience. This position is also bonus eligible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in archaeology, architectural history, or a closely related field with the appropriate experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive technical editing and writing experience, preferably working for a cultural resource management firm, science publication, or at a company operating in a highly technical and related field to cultural resources work.
  • Excellent grasp of written English, grammar, punctuation, and the importance of consistency of terminology.
  • Ability to use functions within software programs to quickly edit and format to ensure consistency within documents, including knowledge and understanding of formatting styles in Word (e.g., numbered headings, tables of contents).
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple authors for the creation, formatting, and production of content.
  • Experience with implementing editorial guidelines.
  • Experience with providing training in technical writing or related topics.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, clearly, and tactfully with staff at all levels.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks, prioritize assignments, and manage deadline pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with field staff, authors, and senior reviewers to compile information, format content, and produce reports.
  • Review text for quality and consistency.
  • Provide feedback on accuracy of content and clarity of language.
  • Collect and organize citations, references, and appendices.
  • Achieve high-quality standards in production of deliverables.
  • Implement company guidelines on preferred writing styles and language usage.
  • Use the Merjent and Society for American Antiquities Style Guides and formatting features and processes in Word.
  • Maintain and update department templates.
  • Support the development of proposals and marketing materials.
