About The Position

The Cultural Coordinator supports the Cultural Integration and Resource (CIR) portfolio within the Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language. The CIR portfolio focuses on Métis cultural resource development, cultural and history training, and maintaining the integrity of MNBC’s cultural content by ensuring accuracy and consistency. The Coordinator uses their knowledge of Métis culture and history to develop resources and facilitate learning opportunities for MNBC staff, citizens, Chartered Communities and the public.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Education, Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, Social Work, History or other relevant areas of study from a recognized, post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in teaching or educational resource and/curriculum development role.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience facilitating workshops or delivering presentations.
  • Eligible for formal professional or technical registration in the appropriate area of expertise.
  • Knowledge/experience with resource writing and editing.
  • Knowledge/experience with qualitative research including Indigenous Research Methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lead, problem solve and utilize team building skills.
  • Proven ability to utilize strong interpersonal skills to deal with others effectively.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including Office 365 and other database/software required for the role.
  • Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in B.C.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Class 5 driver’s license may be required.
  • The position may require the completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research and develop educational resources and presentations relating to Métis culture, history and cultural safety.
  • Facilitates educational workshops and presentations on Métis culture and history to a variety of different audiences.
  • Provides cultural information to MNBC staff and citizens as needed.
  • Coordinates the development and procurement of Métis-specific cultural resources.
  • Builds relationships and regularly engage with Métis Elders, Knowledge carriers, Métis Chartered Communities, MNBC Ministry staff, contractors and Métis citizens when developing educational resources.
  • Assists with writing grant proposals for opportunities that promote Métis cultural wellness, safety and awareness to a variety of audiences, including public and private sectors.
  • Coordinates professional learning opportunities to share knowledge about Métis culture and cultural safety.
  • Oversees the development of promotional materials and marketing for project initiatives and events.
  • Attends professional learning opportunities to share knowledge about Métis culture and heritage.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language team to advance the successful, efficient, and effective delivery of programs and services to Métis people in BC.
  • Participates in committees and project teams as required.
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of the position.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
  • Regular/ occasional attendance at meetings/events that may require work and travel outside of normal business hours.
