About The Position

The Cultural Coordinator will provide culturally appropriate services to children, youth, and families, recognizing the importance of Indigenous knowledge in nurturing their sense of identity and belonging. This role is crucial in honoring cultural expertise and making a meaningful impact. The position will provide mentorship, advocacy, and connections to traditional knowledge Keepers. This position prioritizes working with children in care. The Cultural Coordinator will ensure that all services provided to WRFN children and youth are culturally appropriate and nurture their identity and belonging. They will ensure all services are available to children-in-care who reside on and off reserve and establish connections with identified caregivers and parents. In doing so, the Cultural Coordinator will provide mentorship, personal consultation, and an Indigenous perspective to the FWB staff, the children, and families they serve as required.

Requirements

Diploma in Social Work or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience working with families, youth, and children.
Experience in group and process facilitation, community development, and presentations.
Extensive knowledge, respect, and understanding of Anishinabek culture, traditions, and language.
Strong understanding of colonization and its impacts on Anishinaabe communities (Intergenerational Trauma resulting from IRS, Day Schools, 60’s Scoop, child welfare, etc.).
Ability to make connections with community members.
Must work independently and with minimal supervision.
Ability to work and manage confidential and sensitive information.
Must provide a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.

Responsibilities

Provide connections by extending directions, sharing knowledge, and providing mentorship surrounding ceremony and culture.
Increase culturally-appropriate service delivery in family transition and children-in-care supports.
Connect with children-in-care with their traditions, ceremonies, kin-networks, and land through inter-generational land-based teachings and gatherings, offering a chance to make a lasting difference in your community and the lives of Indigenous youth.
Provide administrative, planning, and coordination support to the FWB Team, ensuring that cultural aspects are integrated into the team's work.
Coordinate all cultural services events, internal and external, for the FWB Team.
Providing opportunities and encouragement for individuals to participate in traditional teachings, ceremonies, events, and activities by organizing, coordinating, and/or facilitating activities.
