The Westin Tempe is looking for a Culinary Professional Artist for Sushi by Bou to join their amazing Team. A Culinary Professional Artist for Sushi by Bou takes part in servicing guests around the Hotel and is part of a great team of helpful people who are passionate about delivering exceptional service. This task is to be handled in a friendly, courteous, timely, and professional manner resulting in an extremely high level of guest satisfaction. A Culinary Professional Artist for Sushi by Bou specializes in the preparation of traditional and modern sushi dishes. They are responsible for selecting high-quality ingredients, maintaining food safety standards, and delivering visually appealing and flavorful presentations. Requirements

  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Self-starting personality with an even disposition.
  • Always maintain a professional appearance and manner.
  • Communicate well with guests.
  • Willingness to “pitch-in” and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Proven experience as a Sushi Cook or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of sushi preparation techniques and food safety regulations.
  • Strong knife skills and attention to detail.
  • Creativity and passion for Japanese cuisine.
  • Standing for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Ability to handle raw fish and sharp tools.
  • Finger/hand dexterity to operate food machinery.
  • Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry, or otherwise, move goods weighing a maximum of 100 lbs. on a continuous schedule.
  • Valid Maricopa County Food Handler’s Card.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary training or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Certification in food handling/safety is a plus.
  • Experience working in a Japanese restaurant is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Service guests around the Hotel in a friendly, courteous, timely, and professional manner, ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction.
  • Specialize in the preparation of traditional and modern sushi dishes.
  • Select high-quality ingredients.
  • Maintain food safety standards.
  • Deliver visually appealing and flavorful presentations.
  • Remain professional at all times and treat all guests and associates with courtesy and respect.
  • Adhere to hotel security policies and procedures, particularly regarding key controls, lifting heavy objects, using chemicals, and effectively reporting safety hazards and safety concerns.
  • Meet and strive to exceed hotel standards for work procedures, dress, grooming, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Be adaptable to change in work area and in hotel procedures with a willingness to learn new skills and/or improve existing ones.
  • Have the ability to solve routine problems that occur on the job and ask for help whenever unsure how to do something.
