About The Position

This is a seasonal, part-time internship opportunity for a high school student interested in pursuing a career in culinary arts. The intern will gain hands-on experience in a professional hotel kitchen, working alongside seasoned culinary professionals. The role involves learning core cooking methods, knife skills, recipe execution, and food preparation for various hotel services, including banquets and dining room service. The environment is high-energy and professional, with a focus on standards and creativity. The internship is designed to provide a strong foundation in culinary arts, offering practical experience, mentorship, and a valuable addition to a resume or culinary school application.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. as needed.
  • Comfortable with bending, reaching, and moving throughout a working kitchen.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include afternoons, evenings, and weekends depending on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge and hands-on skills in core cooking methods (grilling, sauteing, frying) under guidance.
  • Work with knives and professional kitchen equipment safely and under supervision.
  • Read, understand, and recreate recipes with consistency and attention to detail.
  • Prepare cold items, salads, simple side dishes, appetizers, and other menu components.
  • Prep ingredients including washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and organizing mise en place.
  • Mix and prepare cold sauces, meat glazes, jellies, salad dressings, and stuffings.
  • Set up workstations with ingredients and equipment.
  • Assist with inventory of ingredients to maintain proper stock levels.
  • Learn and apply food waste reduction techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized kitchen environment.
  • Ensure all food and supplies are stored correctly and safely.
  • Take ownership of ingredient quality and communicate concerns to supervisors.
