As a Culinary Assistant, you’ll gain hands-on experience in Bento’s Training & Innovation Centre by supporting recipe testing, training preparation, kitchen operations, and product development activities.

Requirements

  • Basic cooking techniques and knife skills.
  • Understanding of food safety, kitchen operations, and culinary fundamentals.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurements and record-keeping.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in food styling, plating, or food photography.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for new food trends and product innovation.

Nice To Haves

  • Food Handler Certification will be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recipe testing by weighing, measuring, and preparing ingredients.
  • Record test results, including quantities, cooking times, temperatures, and observations.
  • Support yield tracking and basic food cost calculations.
  • Create and update standardized recipe documentation and specifications.
  • Participate in product tastings and sensory evaluations.
  • Assist with product and menu photography as needed.
  • Prepare ingredients, equipment, and workstations for training sessions and culinary demonstrations.
  • Support chefs during classes by preparing samples and assisting with demonstrations.
  • Help with post-session cleanup, equipment organization, and ingredient storage.
  • Assist with plating and food presentation for training materials and menu development projects.
  • Receive and inspect deliveries for quality and accuracy.
  • Support inventory management activities, including stock counts and FIFO labeling.
  • Build shopping and replenishment lists and assist with purchasing tasks when required.
  • Maintain sanitation records and support food safety compliance.
  • Research ingredients, suppliers, and pricing to support product development initiatives.
