About The Position

Salem Public Schools is seeking a Carpentry Instructor for its Third-Shift Program at Salem High School, funded by the Career Technical Initiative grant from Commonwealth Corporation. This initiative aims to address the need for skilled labor in trades by transforming vocational high schools into Career Technical Institutes that operate three shifts a day. The program will provide training and job placement opportunities for youth and adults in skilled occupations, contributing to a multi-year strategy to train 20,000 new skilled workers. The instructor will be responsible for teaching and supervising students in Construction cluster programs, adhering to Chapter 74 Massachusetts state frameworks and curriculum disciplines.

Requirements

• Massachusetts teachers’ licensure in Carpentry, Electrical, Welding or Buildings, and Property Maintenance– Chapter 74
• Current OSHA & Red Cross train the trainer certification or willingness to become a trainer in the first year of service.
• Five years of recent (within the last seven years) full-time employment experience directly related to a construction program
• Evidence of mastery of a wide variety of teacher competencies and understanding of instructional techniques.
• Demonstrated skill and working knowledge of various construction methods, including but not limited to: health and safety Knowledge, technical drawings and blueprints, building repair and alteration, welding, electrical, building, and grounds maintenance.
• Demonstrated skill and working knowledge of recordkeeping and client relations.
• Demonstrated skill and working knowledge of energy efficiency and green building technologies.
• Current authorization to work in the United States is required.
