About The Position

The Mission of New Market Skills Center is to provide a positive, industry supported and aligned learning environment where students are encouraged and expected to achieve their highest potential through rigorous career, technical and academic preparation programs. We are looking for a candidate who is committed to supporting students in the area of academic success, social-emotional learning, development of 21st century skills and career exploration/planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • Evidence of at least three years of successful school experience documented with satisfactory evaluations
  • Demonstrated success working with at-risk student population, demonstrating compassion and providing intervention options
  • Knowledge of special education laws and practices; ability to interpret functional vocational assessments and transition plans that are developmentally appropriate for individual students.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in written form with sending school staff, students, and guardians
  • Ability to collaborate with students’ sending school staff to improve students’ experience and performance
  • Honest and strong work ethic
  • Criminal justice fingerprint clearance

Nice To Haves

  • ESA, SPED, CTE Teacher credentials preferred
  • First Aid/CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze school-wide and individual and student achievement data
  • Utilize data to support attendance and academic success of New Market students
  • As part of the career services team, provide academic and career guidance support for students
  • Communicate with parents regarding student attendance and progress as needed
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with sending-school counselors and case managers in support of student success
  • Virtually attend, when appropriate, IEP and 504 meetings convened by host-district personnel
  • Assist instructors with interpretation of IEP’s and implementation strategies for student accommodations
  • Participate with the career services team in student recognition efforts such as student-of-the-quarter awards and scholarships
  • Assist with identifying appropriate placement for successful outcomes for special education students into New Market programs
  • Provide special-education related professional development for New Market instructors
  • Assist with campus supervision and interact professionally with staff, students, and the community
  • Organize, and manage office space & resources including confidential records in compliance with state and federal law
  • Participate in building-wide programs and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
