About The Position

The Newton public school district is seeking a Chapter 74 CTE Dental Assisting Teacher to establish and lead a NEW Dental Assisting Program for high school students in grades 9-12. The teacher will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive curriculum aligned with Chapter 74 frameworks and technical competencies. The goal is to equip students with the skills needed for workplace success or further studies. The first semester (Sept.-Jan.) will focus on curriculum and program development alongside the CTE Director, with direct student instruction beginning in January 2027. The position is full-time for a ten-month school year (183 days).

Requirements

  • Hold a Chapter 74 Dental Assisting teaching license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Associate degree or higher degree related to the subject matter and skills to be taught.
  • Four years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to Dental Assisting.
  • Possession of a current MA (or Master) Dental Assisting license.
  • Passing score on each test (written test, performance test) for Dental Assisting.
  • Achieve a passing score on either the Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test or the Communication and Literacy Skills Test.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the public in creating an atmosphere where individuals feel welcome and respected.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Competency in software related to Dental Assisting.
  • Competency in the use of computer applications and instructional technology to aid in the interactive delivery of instruction and address daily school responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive Chapter 74 Dental Assisting Program.
  • Ensuring students master knowledge and competency skills necessary for the workplace and beyond.
  • Establishing and maintaining a professional classroom/shop environment with an emphasis on safety, mastery of knowledge and skills, and a strong work ethic.
  • Meeting professional teaching responsibilities per teacher contract, including district, school, and departmental goals.
  • Monitoring, assessing, and documenting student progress.
  • Communicating with colleagues, students, home, and clinical placements.
  • Supporting the Director of CTE in the continual enhancement of the Dental Assisting program.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Superintendent-Director.
