Job Summary: The CT Technologist III includes technologists who are at an advanced level, has experience and performs CT scans that are complex in nature. May assist physicians in performing all procedures to include equipment and patient preparation, medication handling, and other duties as directed by the physician. Performs advanced cardiac imaging and associated workflows. Provide technical support to physicians when performing complex exams. Always ensures medication safety. Exercises cultural competency in providing patient education. Responsible for maintaining a safe environment and identifying and reporting any safety concerns. Assumes responsibility and accountability for patient flow by serving as technologist in charge. Has a significant role in quality improvement and makes decisions that support the goal and vision of the department.

Requirements

  • Advanced level CT technologist with experience performing complex CT scans.
  • Ability to assist physicians in performing procedures, including equipment and patient preparation, and medication handling.
  • Proficiency in performing advanced cardiac imaging and associated workflows.
  • Ability to provide technical support to physicians during complex exams.
  • Ensures medication safety.
  • Exercises cultural competency in patient education.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe environment and reporting safety concerns.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for patient flow as technologist in charge.
  • Significant role in quality improvement and decision-making to support department goals.
  • Performs CT exams utilizing approved procedures and protocols.
  • Follows and understands CT safety policies, guidelines and protocols.
  • Receives and transcribes verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners.
  • Previews all CT images and monitors for accuracy.
  • Prepares and sends images to designated viewing systems.
  • Performs section specific imaging QC.
  • Ensures room supply inventory meets activity requirements.
  • Handles lab specimens according to established protocols.
  • Assists physicians performing advanced procedures.
  • Ensures all supplies and/or devices are prepared and available in accordance with sterile technique and infection control policies and practices.
  • Adheres to all sterilization protocols.
  • Performs all advanced cardiac scans (gated & CCTA) and associated workflows.
  • Adheres to medication management/disposal guidelines.
  • Prepares and administers CT medications.
  • Follows hospital guidelines in handling of medications.
  • Performs venipuncture as needed.
  • Inputs accurate and timely documentation in all applicable electronic medical records systems.
  • Responsible for weekend and shift duties (crash cart) as applicable.
  • Operates, calibrates and maintains imaging equipment and accessory instruments.
  • Recognizes and reports defective equipment immediately.
  • Notifies appropriate section leaders of defective equipment.
  • Takes an active role in obtaining service for down equipment.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new imaging equipment.
  • Maintains section workflow without jeopardizing patient care.
  • Provides leadership as the technologist in charge or as lead tech of an CT specialty area.
  • Serves as a lead preceptor for peers, students and other staff members.
  • Works with leadership to implement new and/or changes in procedures and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Performs CT exams utilizing approved procedures and protocols per standards of practice for speed, organization, precision and accuracy based upon the department’s accrediting agency and/or department guidelines for exam protocols, adhering to department productivity standards. Follows and understands CT safety policies, guidelines and protocols.
  • Per the CT technologist's scope of practice and in accordance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures, receives and transcribes verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners.
  • Previews all CT images and monitors for accuracy and prepares/sends images to designated viewing systems. Performs section specific imaging QC using established technical factors and image identification.
  • Ensures room supply inventory meets activity requirements and lab specimens are handled according to established protocols.
  • May assist physicians performing advanced procedures and ensures all supplies and/or devices are prepared and available in accordance with sterile technique and infection control policies and practices. Adheres to all sterilization protocols.
  • Performs all advanced cardiac scans (gated & CCTA) and associated workflows including but not limited to calcium scoring, QARG documentation and advanced post-processing.
  • Adheres to the medication management/disposal guidelines, to include receiving, stocking, and holding the medication container provided by the Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) to enable the LIP to withdraw medication. Discards the container once it is empty.
  • Prepares and administers CT medications and follows hospital guidelines in handling of medications to comply with all medication safety requirements. Performs venipuncture as needed.
  • Inputs accurate and timely documentation in all applicable electronic medical records systems. Responsible for weekend and begin and/or end of shift duties (crash cart) as applicable to shift assignment.
  • Operates, calibrates and maintains imaging equipment and accessory instruments used in exams. Recognizes and reports defective equipment immediately and notify appropriate section leaders. Takes an active role in obtaining service for down equipment. Participates in the evaluation of new imaging equipment.
  • Maintains the section workflow without jeopardizing patient care, frequently provides leadership as the technologist in charge or as lead tech of an CT specialty area.
  • Serves as a lead preceptor for peers, students and other members.
