Job Summary: The CT Technologist II includes technologists who are at an intermediate level or have experience and performs CT scans that are mildly complex exams in nature. May assist physicians in performing basic procedures to include equipment and patient preparation, medication handling, and other duties as directed by the physician. Provide technical support to physicians when performing complex exams. Always ensures medication safety. Exercises cultural competency in providing patient education. Responsible for maintaining a safe environment and identifying and reporting any safety concerns.

Requirements

Intermediate level or experienced CT technologist
Ability to perform mildly complex CT exams
Proficiency in medication safety

Knowledge of CT safety policies, guidelines, and protocols
Ability to receive and transcribe verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners
Ability to preview CT images, monitor for accuracy, and prepare/send images
Ability to perform section specific imaging QC
Ability to manage room supply inventory and handle lab specimens
Ability to assist physicians with procedures and maintain sterile technique
Adherence to medication management/disposal guidelines
Ability to prepare and administer CT medications and perform venipuncture
Proficiency in electronic medical records documentation
Ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain imaging equipment
Ability to recognize and report defective equipment
Ability to maintain section workflow and provide backup leadership
Ability to serve as a preceptor
Ability to prepare and present educational material
Participation in continuing education

Responsibilities

Performs CT exams utilizing approved procedures and protocols per standards of practice for speed, organization, precision and accuracy based upon the department’s accrediting agency and/or department guidelines for exam protocols, adhering to department productivity standards. Follow and understand CT safety policies, guidelines and protocols.
Per the CT technologist's scope of practice and in accordance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures, receives and transcribes verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners.
Previews all CT images and monitors for accuracy and prepares/sends images to designated viewing systems. Performs section specific imaging QC using established technical factors and image identification.
Ensures room supply inventory meets activity requirements and ensures lab specimens are handle according to established protocols.
May assist physicians performing procedures and ensures all supplies and/or devices are prepared and available in accordance with sterile technique and infection control policies and practices. Adheres to all sterilization protocols.
Adheres to the medication management/disposal guidelines, to include receiving, stocking, and holding the medication container provided by the Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) to enable the LIP to withdraw medication. Discards the container once it is empty.
Prepares and administers CT medications and follows hospital guidelines in handling of medications to comply with all medication safety requirements. Performs venipuncture as needed.
Inputs accurate and timely documentation in all applicable electronic medical records systems. Responsible for weekend and begin and/or end of shift duties as applicable to shift assignment.
Operates, calibrates and maintains imaging equipment and accessory instruments used in exams. Recognizes and reports defective equipment immediately to supervisor. Participates in obtaining service for down equipment.
Maintains the section workflow without jeopardizing patient care, and provides backup leadership as the technologist in charge as assigned.
Serves as a preceptor for peers, students and other staff members.
Prepares and/or presents educational material to staff, such as case reviews, in-services, safety, and Joint Commission related topics. Participates in continuing education to stay abreast of the Imaging technology and applications. Provides patient and family education, specific to age and demographic population as appropriate.
Participates in performance improvement activities and other department/organizational committees, such as The Joint Commission, safety audits, turn around time (TAT) projects, and customer service. May assist in maintaining QA records associated with ACR accreditation.
