The CT Technologist I is responsible for competently operating CT equipment to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures. This includes imaging processing, body, head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, contrast, orthopedic and extremity scans. The technologist obtains medical history, compares requisitions to physician orders, positions patients, selects scanning factors, and ensures radiation protection and safety. They prepare and administer contrast media, assist with scanning techniques, provide measurements and additional slices for interpretation, and post-process images. Record keeping, patient and study information entry into the radiology information system, and documentation of billing codes are also key responsibilities. The role involves identifying equipment performance issues, performing quality assurance tests, and reporting malfunctions. Patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique, are also part of the job. The technologist must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care for all patient populations served.
