About The Position

The CT Technologist I is responsible for competently operating CT equipment to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures. This includes basic imaging processing, body, head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, contrast, orthopedic, and extremity imaging. The technologist will obtain medical history from patients, compare requisitions to physician orders for accuracy, and ensure proper patient positioning and radiation protection. They will prepare and administer contrast media under radiologist direction, provide measurements and additional slices for interpretation, and post-process images. Record keeping, entering patient information into the radiology information system, and documenting billing codes are also key responsibilities. The role involves identifying equipment performance issues, performing quality assurance tests, and reporting malfunctions. Patient positioning and transporting duties, which may involve lifting and pushing/pulling, are also part of the job. The technologist must demonstrate knowledge of age-appropriate care and principles of growth and development.

Requirements

  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Computed Tomography (CT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 18 months
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • No experience required.
  • Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and basic radiation safety.
  • Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Competently operates CT equipment to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures.
  • Performs basic imaging processing, body, head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, contrast, orthopedic and extremity procedures.
  • Obtains medical history from patients and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.
  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides radiation protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist, and assists in the proper scanning techniques.
  • Provides measurements and additional slices for accurate interpretation with direction from the Radiologist.
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
  • Prepares and maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the departmental policies and procedures.
