About The Position

The Procedural Scheduler provides general clerical support in an imaging modality. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, answering phones, operating computers, scheduling appointments, screening patients, giving written and verbal instructions to patients, and requesting prior imaging. The Scheduler coordinates the services of the advanced imaging departments of MUSC Physicians by working with technologists, radiologists, referring doctors/clinics, front desk, and schedulers in the services of radiology. The Scheduler reports to the Supervisor or Manager of specific scheduling modality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize work, provide excellent verbal and written communication, interact tactfully with customers, and establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to learn and use new processes, tools, and equipment as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience in a medical office or advanced imaging department preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and respond to scheduling inquiries, taking calls for the department as needed.
  • Schedule patient MRI and CT appointments based on modality availability and physician orders; work with requesting providers to find the best solution for add-on patients.
  • Operate scheduling/EHR computer systems to enter and manage appointment records; assist with data entry of patient electronic medical records (EPIC).
  • Screen patients for exam eligibility (e.g., contraindications, allergies, implants, pregnancy status, mobility).
  • Provide patients with verbal pre-exam instructions and respond to questions with clear, accurate information about their radiology procedure and aftercare.
  • Confirm, remind, and reschedule appointments, communicating changes to patients and staff; work with patients who show up late on finding a solution to get them back on the schedule.
  • Coordinate with technologists and radiologists as needed on scheduling workflow and procedures; assist in daily operations of the advanced imaging department, including looking ahead on imaging schedules for possible issues.
  • Communicate any issues to the appropriate modality and/or Modality Supervisor.
  • Provide the highest level of patient satisfaction by promptly and courteously responding to the needs and requests of patients, visitors, and the public; assist other areas with patients as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, HIPAA-compliant records.
  • Perform other clerical or support duties as needed by radiologists, technologists, and site management.
