About The Position

Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. We have been serving residents of Edgar County since 1968 though community education, emergency services, and outpatient care. This position functions as a member of the surgical team in the role of scrub person working under the direction of a surgeon. The incumbent prepares the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for the surgical procedure. The incumbent must understand the procedure and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. He/she must ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and be constantly vigil of the sterile field.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a surgical technology program accredited by CAAHEP for AREC/STSA/ACS.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • One year of recent surgical experience as a Certified Scrub Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up the sterile table using proper instruments, packs, and supplies, equipment and medication/solutions needed for the procedure.
  • Assists the surgical team in the OR to prepare the patient, the operating table and the surgery area for the procedure.
  • Assure that adequate supplies of scrubs, gowns, gloves, etc. are available for the procedure.
  • Assists surgeon throughout the procedure with instruments and retraction, always maintaining the highest sterile techniques.
  • Responsible for making sure all equipment is working properly on the sterile field, including the assembly of equipment required for the specific surgery.
  • Perform appropriate counts with the circulator prior to the surgery and before closing the incision, according to current policy.
  • Assists with between case clean-up and proceeds with preparation for the next case.
  • Monitors and stocks supplies in the OR and central supply without overstocking.
  • Cleans and prepares instrument or terminal sterilization using germicides and sterilizing equipment.
  • Complete clinical competency skills where assigned and those where cross trained.
