About The Position

The CSSM Group Lead manages a team of 4–8 CSSM colleagues (e.g., SCLs, EALs, SCAs, and contract resources) and leads planning and execution of end-to-end clinical supply chain activities across Phase I–IV programs. As a member of the CSSM Leadership Team, the role helps set portfolio strategy and direction to ensure consistent, high-quality supply delivery and may represent GCS on key governance forums (e.g., Clinical Review Boards and the GCS eLT). The Group Lead partners with CSSM peers and cross-company stakeholders (CSSM, GCS, PharmSci, Medical, Operations, PGS, and Medical Affairs) to align resources to portfolio priorities, share best practices, and advance continuous improvement and digital supply chain initiatives. Accountable to GCS, CD&O, and PharmSci leaders, the role ensures compliant, cost-effective planning, design, production, and on-time delivery of clinical supplies by proactively identifying risks and driving mitigation plans through CSSM teams.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree (or equivalent) is required, with 10+ years managing scientific or clinical projects in a relevant industry.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

  • Advanced training in supply chain management, scientific or clinical disciplines, business administration and/or people development /leadership, are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop direct reports (hire, coach, performance management) and mentor staff to improve clinical supply delivery.
  • Own portfolio execution: plan and deliver clinical supplies; maintain accurate project information; monitor metrics and drive continuous improvement.
  • Serve as an escalation point; ensure compliance and readiness for audits/inspections; represent CSSM in required management notifications.
  • Engage customers and cross-functional stakeholders to align demand, resources, and commitments; advocate CSSM/GCS positions on matrix teams.
  • Lead strategic and operational excellence: develop/review the CSSM strategic plan, ensure harmonized project management tools/systems, and share updates/knowledge.
  • Support enterprise-facing activities including business development/interface with external partners and advancing future CSSM/GCS technology strategy.
  • Regional/Network: lead regional GCS colleagues, manage issue escalation, and build stakeholder relationships.
  • Customer & TA Partnerships: act as the GCS contact with MedSci Category Leads, ClinOps TA leads, and PharmSci Team Leads; strengthen relationships across therapeutic areas and the customer-facing process.
  • Medical Affairs & Digital: serve as the GCS contact for Medical Affairs and represent CSSM in data/digital supply chain initiatives; manage related issues and advance strategy.
