About The Position

The CSCD Residential Monitor is responsible for supervising and controlling residents during various activities, ensuring their safety and adherence to program rules. This role involves maintaining order, preventing incidents, conducting checks, documenting events, and enforcing procedures. The position also includes receiving new residents, conducting orientations, monitoring testing, performing searches, and serving as a positive role model. Additionally, the role may involve transporting residents, attending training, providing guidance, and testifying in court as needed. A strong understanding of security procedures, department policies, and the ability to de-escalate difficult situations are crucial.

Requirements

  • Must be age 18 or older.
  • High school education or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan and execute work.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with residents, staff and others.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of security procedures and techniques.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of department policies, rules, regulations and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination) after training.
  • Demonstrate ability to deescalate and handle difficult situations among persons of divergent backgrounds.
  • Ability to deal effectively with possible hostile aggressive and criminally minded population.
  • Confront negative behavior in a positive manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Military experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a correctional or residential setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and maintains individual and group control during all SATF activities, including cleaning, classes, studying, counseling, meals, recreation, and other authorized activities.
  • Prevents and reports incidents of escapes, self-injury, and violent or aggressive behaviors.
  • Conducts visual checks and headcounts, documenting each check as required.
  • Maintains chronological records in daily logs of events occurring during the work shift.
  • Reports resident rule infractions by submitting incident reports.
  • Participates in case staffing with Residential Counselors and medical treatment staff, and in disciplinary hearings when required.
  • Enforces resident sign-in and sign-out procedures.
  • Ensures fire and safety procedures for residents.
  • Receives new residents and processes them according to departmental rules and regulations, including searching them according to PREA and CJAD standards.
  • Logs and stores residents' belongings, and issues linens and clothing.
  • Conducts new resident orientation, including providing the residents handbook, explaining grievance procedures, and program policies.
  • Monitors and conducts urine screening and breathalyzer testing.
  • Performs room searches to control contraband and takes appropriate actions.
  • Answers inquiries with appropriate information regarding resident behaviors.
  • Maintains the facility in a neat and clean manner by supervising residents in cleanup activities.
  • Monitors resident curfew, furlough, wake-up, and meal schedules.
  • Monitors mess hall and classroom procedures for residents.
  • Escorts residents to and from outside appointments.
  • Serves as a positive role model for residents.
  • Operates vans and transports residents as assigned.
  • Attends all assigned mandatory training to obtain and maintain certification.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to residents, informing their residential supervision officer and counselor of pertinent information.
  • Provides detailed reports when necessary.
  • Conducts searches of lockers, pat downs, strip searches, and checks vehicles and property as necessary for security and safety.
  • Testifies in court as needed.
  • Communicates with other staff as assigned, including van drivers and CSO.
  • Monitors the physical fitness of residents to ensure safety and prevent injury.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of security procedures and techniques.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of department policies, rules, regulations, and PREA after training.
  • Demonstrates ability to de-escalate and handle difficult situations among persons of divergent backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates ability to deal effectively with a possible hostile, aggressive, and criminally minded population.

Benefits
