Fermilab’s Particle Physics Directorate seeks a senior-level Cryogenic Engineer to plan, research, and develop large or major engineering projects. The engineer will lead and contribute to design, design review, procurement, manufacture, installation, testing, and initial operation, ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, requirements, standards, and Department of Energy orders. The role includes estimating manpower, scheduling work, coordinating and directing technicians and other engineers as assigned, and reviewing progress and results. The engineer plans projects from inception through operation, develops designs and specifications for major and technically complex projects, analyzes data, performs engineering calculations, and researches engineering problems and alternatives. The position also contributes to cost estimates and budget monitoring, reviews work before hardware or financial resources are committed, implements changes in methods, designs, or equipment, and contributes to engineering policies and safety and technical standards. Team supervision or leadership may be assigned. This is an onsite position based at Fermilab’s Batavia office. Work may involve cryogenics, high voltage, and oxygen-deficiency hazards, as well as mental concentration, sitting, standing, and tight work schedules. Required PPE includes eye, face, foot, hand, and hearing protection. Employment offers are contingent on successful background checks and drug screening. New employees must obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential and pass a federal background investigation.
