The CRU Nursing Assistant will assist the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients. This includes tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, assisting with activity orders and ambulation, which may involve using therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion exercises, and special transferring techniques as indicated. The role also involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, daily weights, and other patient data, with accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The Nursing Assistant will perform purposeful rounding under the direction of the RN, promptly communicating patient and family needs and concerns, and participating in admission, transfer, and discharge processes. This includes room setup, patient orientation, managing belongings, and ensuring patient call lights are always within reach and answered promptly. Additionally, the role involves collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, completing errands, maintaining and ordering stock for the nursing area, and cleaning equipment and work areas. The position requires performing patient positioning and transporting duties that involve lifting and pushing/pulling, utilizing proper techniques and assistive devices. It also includes tasks related to patient nutrition, such as diet review, tray setup/removal, and assisting with diet selection, as well as tasks to maintain skin integrity, including repositioning and providing special supplies like TED hose and sequential compression devices. Depending on site/unit requirements and under RN direction, responsibilities may extend to removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and performing bladder scans. The role necessitates practicing within infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene, knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures, proper disposal of contaminated materials, and appropriate attire for patients in isolation. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development principles and assessing/interpreting data related to age-specific needs.
