About The Position

The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes individuals charged with offences under the Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statutes. The ACPS is dedicated to fostering safe communities by vigorously prosecuting serious and violent crimes and collaborating with community partners to enhance the administration of criminal justice. This role is an opportunity for a lawyer with exceptional litigation skills to join the Prosecutions team at the Grande Prairie Regional Office. As a Crown Prosecutor, you will contribute to the delivery of justice through fair, fearless, and effective prosecutions.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD)
  • Active membership or immediate eligibility for membership with the Law Society of Alberta
  • Crown Prosecutor 1: a minimum of 0-4 years legal experience
  • Crown Prosecutor 2: a minimum of 4 years legal experience
  • Crown Prosecutor 3: a minimum of 11 years legal experience
  • For Law degrees obtained outside Canada, proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is required.
  • A valid Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License
  • Travel within the province
  • Cover letter briefly outlining criminal law experience and bar call date

  • Ensuring the public interest is served and a just result is obtained
  • Providing the Court with evidence and legal argument that is fair, accurate, and complete
  • Conducting assigned prosecutions of all serious and complex cases in a highly competent manner
  • Working with victims of crimes and their families
