About The Position

This part-time position provides safe crossing passage for students in the County. The Crossing Guard assists children and parents in safely crossing intersections to and from school on school days and during special events. The employee receives supervision from, and reports directly to, the Supervisor, School Resource Unit.

Requirements

• Graduation from a recognized high school or possession of a General Education Development (GED) certificate recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Assist children and parents in safely crossing intersections to and from school on school days and during special events.
• Secure safe intersections near schools by starting and restarting the flow of traffic.
• Control traffic for motorists and buses entering and exiting school property.
• Place and pick up school sentinel and other signs in the roadway at designated points near crossings.
• Communicate with the school via radio as needed.
