Crossing Guard-Seasonal/Part-Time

City of Austin•Austin, TX
•Onsite

About The Position

The City of Austin Safe Routes to School Program educates students about pedestrian and bicycle safety and provides adult crossing guards at important intersections to reduce barriers to active travel to school. Crossing Guards help school children walk and bike safely to and from school by using safe crossing techniques, including raising a hand-held stop sign. They monitor traffic for safe crossing opportunities, stop traffic when needed, alert motorists to pedestrians in the crosswalk, communicate safety information, and encourage children to follow crossing rules. They also observe and report incidents or conditions that could pose safety hazards. This seasonal, part-time position serves designated school crossings at various locations in and around Austin. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work schedules and locations may change based on department needs, and the position follows the corresponding school district calendar. Compensation is $22.05 per hour. A pre-employment Criminal Background Investigation is required.
