About The Position

Incumbents in this job class ensure the safety of schoolchildren going to or coming from school at designated street crossings and intersections. This is a part-time position with a morning shift for Lindon Elementary, typically from 8:45 am to 9:45 am. While actual work is usually less than one hour, compensation is provided for one full hour per school day at Range 1, Step 6 ($14.52/hr). This is a Non-Exempt position.

Requirements

• Possession of a standard senior high school diploma or GED.
• Some responsible work experience.
• Knowledge of traffic rules and traffic safety.
• Knowledge of public relations.
• Ability to use good judgment.
• Ability to read and express ideas in English.
• Ability to walk children safely across the street.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to see and hear clearly.

Responsibilities

• Guards street crossings and intersections during hours when children are going to or coming from school.
• Directs actions of children and traffic at street crossings and intersections to ensure safe crossing.
• Records license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and signs and reports infractions to law enforcement.
• Escorts children across the street.
• Places caution signs at designated points before going on duty and removes signs at the end of the shift.
• May stop speeding vehicles and warn drivers.
• Observes necessary safety precautions.
• Performs other related duties.
