About The Position

The Strategic Defense Solutions (SDS) team is hiring Principal Systems Engineers to support programs for our US military and various international customers, keeping the world safe from foreign threats. SDS supports multiple Collins contracts and is seeking to fill roles across several open contracts – our goal is to align each new hire with a position that best suits their skills and allows for career growth. In this role, you will play a critical part in the design, development, and integration of products, from concept to production. You will collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure seamless system performance and deliver innovative solutions that meet customer needs. This position requires: US Government Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance Day 1. Onsite: This is an onsite role supporting our Largo, FL location. Sign-on Bonus Eligible

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. Government (DoD) Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain an active U.S. Government (DoD) Top Secret Clearance
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Experience on a DoD program as an engineering CPTL/IPTL or engineering team lead role including CAM experience
  • Experience with DoD systems engineering processes, Technical Reviews and Audits, and MIL-STD compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to create verification plans, conduct test procedures, and manage requirement traceability matrices (e.g., in IBM DOORS, Cameo) to ensure system compliance
  • Proven experience in designing, conducting, and documenting Systems design activities including specification development, traceability
  • Proven experience in designing, conducting, and documenting IV&V activities, including hardware-in-the-loop (HITL), software testing, and performance evaluation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with voice communication systems, including VoIP (Voice over IP) protocols like SIP, RTP and SRTP
  • Knowledge of configuration management practices to manage system changes, revisions, and baselines throughout the development lifecycle
  • Ability to write comprehensive test reports, discrepancy reports (DRs), and system evaluation reports for customer review
  • Hands-on experience with industry-standard integration and testing tools such as MATLAB, Python, Robot Framework, Selenium WebDriver, Ansible, DOORS, Cameo, or JIRA/Confluence
  • Developing and executing requirements verification model in Cameo tool suite
  • Experience developing and managing requirements and MBSE model development using UAF
  • Knowledge of military specifications (e.g., MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1472) for designing rugged and reliable systems.
  • Proficiency in system design tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, or equivalent)
  • Active and transferable U.S. Government DoD Top Secret Security Clearance is required prior to start date

Responsibilities

  • Organize and lead the development of full lifecycle solutions from CONOPS to Validation while collaborating with the customer, subcontractors, and executive leadership
  • Organize and lead lab activities including setup, configuration management, and testing
  • Ensure Modeling, Hardware, and Software Interfaces utilize a scalable ontology
  • Mentor several professionals with varying levels of experience
  • Own the preparation, cost, and schedule of Design Reviews as well as Integration, Dry Run, and Formal Qualification Testing
  • Influence decision-makers with recommended courses of action across complex problems
  • Review and document major changes in systems or processes to solve complex problems
