About The Position

Supports and troubleshoots hardware and software test operations/measurement in multiple locations. This role involves managing schedules, organizing tests, and facilitating prioritization. The associate will collaborate with engineers to develop measurement techniques, design effective measurement methods and data acquisition processes, and procure fixtures for special tests. They will also create necessary software for special applications, document hardware test measurements, and provide technical support to customers worldwide. The position requires understanding and applying company guidelines, participating in quality procedure maintenance, and developing training programs. The associate will act as a company representative, interact effectively with employees, and exercise independent decision-making for problem-solving, budget management, and program coordination. Adaptability, responsiveness to changing work needs, and participation in improvement projects are essential. The role also mandates adherence to safety policies, maintaining confidentiality, and sharing work as required. The associate must manage their own work, maintain a flexible schedule, participate in audits, and engage in continuous learning. Travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and engineering prints to design, build, and troubleshoot wire harnesses.
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools, soldering equipment, crimping tools, power supplies, and multimeters.
  • Experience developing test plans, executing tests, documenting results, and publishing Cummins Test Reports in Windchill.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both team members and customers.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods, including 7-Step Problem Solving.
  • Ability to assess risks, determine root causes, and help implement effective engineering solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and respond efficiently to customer requests.
  • Availability to work on site in a Cummins lab environment most days of the week, with occasional remote work opportunities.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required with Department of Labor Certification OR Position Profile Associates degree from an accredited program in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • Four year experience/education requirement accomplished through either Bachelors degree in related field OR associates degree in related field and at least two years of relevant experience.

  • Familiarity with 48V electrical systems is a plus.

  • Prepares samples, verifies equipment calibration and performs tests according to an approved standard procedure or work instruction in a manner which ensures, and results in, data that can be trusted and delivered to the engineer or customer.
  • Prepares documentation in a manner which clearly organizes and presents testing methods, instrument settings, the data and analysis to allow the engineer and customer to understand the results and form accurate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Interprets test equipment specifications from test standards or lab customer requirements; selects and integrates appropriate equipment, instrumentation and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data.
  • Assesses capability of the lab equipment against the requirements and support infrastructure.
  • Assembles test articles according to test requirements, including all necessary installation or accommodations for instrumentation, in a manner that allows the test articles to successfully undergo product functional test.
  • Interprets test plan to determine optimal location and orientation within a test space in accordance with local safety and environmental requirements and fabricates required system with appropriate materials.
  • Champions and models proactive health and safety behaviors by identifying, reporting and participating in actions to improve health and safety in order to build an interdependent culture and contribute to an injury-free workplace.
  • Interprets machine and tool maintenance records and data to develop and execute preventative and predictive management strategies to drive continuous improvement within the manufacturing process.
  • Identifies, understands and corrects flaws in data that supports effective information governance across operational business processes and decision making.
  • Solves problems and may mentor others on effective problem solving by using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and ensures actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.
