About The Position

BELLINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS BELLINGHAM, MASSACHUSETTS is seeking a Head Coach for the Middle School Cross Country Track program. This role involves planning, directing, and supervising all aspects of the Cross Country Track Program in accordance with MIAA, Tri-Valley League, Athletic Department, and School policies. The coach will oversee the physiological and skill development of student-athletes, aiming to develop each participant to their maximum potential. This position is directly responsible to the Athletic Director, in liaison with the High School Principal. The appointment is subject to sufficient participation to support the coaching position and may require the coach to drive students to athletic events when 14 or fewer student-athletes are traveling.

Requirements

  • Dedication to the School, to the Student-Athlete, and to the Athletic Program.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the sport and the ability to demonstrate and teach individual skills.
  • Ability to motivate the student-athlete to maximum potential.
  • Professional in appearance and actions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a Cross Country Head Coach.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, or the equivalent.
  • Employment as a member of the teaching staff.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing, coaching, and administering the total Cross Country Track Program.
  • Following policies and procedures in the Athletic Department Staff Handbook.
  • Adhering to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
  • Following sound coaching practices in teaching all skills, including aspects of health and safety.
  • Assuming responsibility for equipment inventory.
  • Enforcing disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior.
  • Promoting and encouraging maximum student participation and behavior.
  • Assisting in planning inter-school scrimmages and non-league games.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to the Assistant Coach.
  • Overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or assigned area, including locker rooms.
  • Promoting public relations through the news media and within the community.
  • Promoting the student-athlete in the search for college scholarships.
  • Developing a scouting system during the season to provide maximum information for viable game plans.
  • Developing game plans that are flexible and adaptable to changing game strategies.
  • Assuming responsibility for the end-of-season report, including a summary of the season, records and scores of all levels, award winners (MVP and All Stars), and recommendations for program improvements.
